You Can Go Home Again
Some "Do Overs" in life . . .
are way "Over Due"
Whether you believe that you can or believe you cannot -
You are right !
In the summer of 1967 I met a sailor on leave. Well not exactly on leave by permission of the USN . . . actually, he and his buddy were about 9 days into being accidentially AWOL - you'll have to read the book to get the skinny on that.
In autumn the sailor bought a 1963 Ford Falcon Futura convertible and left it at my house while he flew back to his ship in San Diego. I drove that car all during my senior year at James Lick High School in San Jose, CA. We made history together - me and that Falcon. I have friends and memories that I will never ever forget because of what began in Pat's garage at about 3 o'clock on a hot summer's afternoon in 1967. July 21st to be exact.
We got married in 1968 and had a baby the next summer. Mom pressured us to sell the Falcon so our bouncing baby boy would not bounce out of the convertible and onto his head. We sadly gave in to her request but I secretly regretted it ever since.
The purpose of this site is to share my memories of our "Summer of Love" and show all doubters out there that you can go home again and there are "Do Overs" in life. If you dream it you can do it. I am not 16 anymore but I am still, and always will be, a girl who loved an AWOL sailor in the summer of 1967.
